Human beings, unlike animals, do not have instincts, not even maternal instincts, instead
they are the fruit of cultural production, which transforms concepts, beliefs, forms and
ways of life throughout history.
From time to time, humanity feels the need for impetuous and brutal change.
Revolutions have changed the history of the world, even when they failed to achieve their initial goals.
We are the children of a century of revolutions and hard-won rights, can we cut the umbilical cord with our origins?
Changing the world means firstly overturning the system that generated us.
A decision to rupture, almost always scourging, the opposite of flexibility and natural progress. An uprooting.
A premise that sets out the equation for the relationship we each have with the concept of revolution.
The relationship with the mother.
The MADRE project intends to start from the controversial concept of revolution, to create a result that embraces a range of contemporary languages.
Balletto Civile uses a synecdoche to explore this extremely complex and multi-faceted subject. To address these issues, the group tackles the body of work of the German playwright and poet Heiner Müller, who shatters the text to operate on the unconscious.
This is a process that moves between words and movement to create total theatre, in a tumult of images, with close-ups and panoramic shots and a cinematographic soundtrack. In this Tower of Babel, sound becomes image, and image and movement give birth to sounds.
Physical research into a cinematographic dramaturgy.
This is a form of total theatre that continually flips between discourse through dance and through words, looking for a third way: a vision, an almost synesthetic experience that mixes different languages.
Balletto Civile is a nomadic collective of performers, founded by the dancer and choreographer Michela Lucenti together with a permanent group of performers. The collective constantly engages in collaborations with other dancers, playwrights, musicians and multidisciplinary artists, to create productions and projects in Italy and across Europe.
