ALESSANDRO SCIARRONI
Chroma_don’t be frightened of turning the page
devised and performed by Alessandro Sciarroni
lighting by Rocco Giansante
dramaturgy by Alessandro Sciarroni and Su-Feh Lee
music Paolo Persia
Alessandro Sciarroni developed the idea for this performance practice while participating in the Migrant Bodies project. His research concentrates on a broad concept of migration.
By observing the migrating habits of certain animals that return to their birthplace to reproduce and die, Sciarroni began working on the concept of turning. This concept is represented literally on the stage, through the action of a body rotating on its axis. This then develops into a psychophysical and emotional voyage, a dance based on duration, since the word turning also means evolving and changing.
Sciarroni will continue his research at Villa Manin during the residence, where he will be curating the audio and visual aspects of his solo performance. In its final version the performance will be entitled CHROMA_don’t be frightened of turning the page; the first part of the title is borrowed from a book of colours by Derek Jarman and the second from an album by Bright Eyes, the artist’s favourite rock group.
Alessandro Sciarroni is an Italian performing artist working around the globe. He has many years training and research in the fields of visual arts and theatre. His works have been presented at contemporary dance and theatre festivals, museums and art galleries, as well as non-conventional spaces where his work often involves performers from other disciplines. Alessandro Sciarroni’s work has been presented within networks and circuits for the promotion of contemporary dance and the mobility of artists, and he has participated in European projects and research residencies for many years.
