With the project Talos 2, Arkadi Zaides and his team will examine the question of boundaries and borders, looking at them as spaces that generate movement and call for an ethical reflection on Europe's position towards issues of migration, considering policies towards those who arrive here and investments in technology to prevent people crossing its borders.
The main focus of Arkadi Zaides' project will be the Schengen area. Dance and choreography are used as conceptual and practical tools to investigate the relationships between space, people, bodies and machines.
TALOS. 2 will focus on the relationship between those trying to cross borders and those trying to stop them. Using the artistic practice of re-enactment, TALOS. 2 may indicate ethical approaches and reveal political and economic interests.
The working group for TALOS. 2 will involve a team of researchers, thinkers, engineers, activists and artists from different countries.
The project is to be undertaken with a broad time frame, which will make it possible to engage with more specific, local issues raised by the different partners, taking into account the migratory tides that are currently sweeping over Europe. The main objective will be the creation of a range of events, in multiple locations and open to the public, in collaboration with a wide range of artistic bodies, civil movements and NGOs.
Arkadi Zaides is an independent choreographer. He was born in the Soviet Union in 1979 and emigrated to Israel in 1990. He was a member of Noa Dar's Dance Company, and until 2004 was a dancer and choreographer with the Batsheva Dance Company. His work is appreciated around the globe and he has received numerous awards, both for his artistic creations and for his commitment to human rights. He lived for many years in Tel-Aviv, just 20 km from the occupied territories, and now lives in Europe and tours with his works.
