of practice and evanescence is an experimental project of a practical archive of performative exercises conceived by authors and performers Eugenia Delbue and Margherita Kay Budillon. The project develops according to an articulated pathway aimed at building a repertoire of exercises that train performativity, imagination and emotion and that derive from the direct training experience of the two perfomers as Fiorenza Menni's students or as researchers in the field or historians of her thought and pathway as a trainer in the performing arts.

Fiorenza Menni, an actress and pedagogue, has conducted workshops from 1998 to the present day, training generations of female artists on the contemporary scene, without keeping a written record of her activities. The exercises, in their written form, are an original formal elaboration by Delbue and Budillon, investigating their possibility of transmission through the word, in the absence of the 'teacher's body' through a peculiar method they devised that interconnects memory, language and body.

After collecting multiple data around each of the studied exercises, the respective delivery is written down and performed, in a process of reciprocal incarnations aimed at continuous refinement.

When the delivery reaches completeness, it is shared with Fiorenza Menni, who practices her own exercise formulated in a language that is no longer subjective but a collective reflection of experiences. Finally, the writing is verified through the crossing of outsiders who have never known Fiorenza Menni as a trainer. The final delivery of each exercise thus emerges from a long process of passages between pupils, teacher and future recipients.

In Dialogues, the scores of exercises proposed by Eugenia Delbue and Margherita Kay Budillon suggest physical or imaginative actions to be performed outdoors and in groups.

The practices are accessible to anyone who is interested, with no age limit and no need for professionalism or athleticism. The park of Villa Manin will become a theatre for imaginative and emotional actions and paths that train the contextual and sentimental precision of interpretation and presence.

During this Residency period, exercises will be selected to be performed outdoors and in relation to the landscape. During the two weeks, Budillon and Delbue will be engaged in an intense activity of writing deliveries, their practical embodiment and audio recording, in order to define a circuit of exercises to be carried out in groups, dedicated to citizens.

The final scores, after passing through a composite process of incorporation, comparison, textual elaboration, audio-recording, constitute a ‘dynamic archive of performative practices’ that can be shared, listened to and practised.

The archive will be enjoyed on 24 July in a ‘participatory installation’ format in which the audience can experience and act out the exercises independently through the use of common technological devices.

Margherita Kay Budillon and Eugenia Delbue, curators of the practice and evanescence project have been collaborating with Ateliersi (an artistic production collective working in the field of performing and theatrical arts under the artistic direction of Fiorenza Menni and Andrea Mochi Sismondi) since 2017, in shows, performances and training projects.

Since 2021, they have been working on the project of practice and evanescence, devising a personal methodology of writing performance exercises centred on Fiorenza Menni's pedagogy that can transmit her formative practice in her absence.

Eugenia Delbue is an actress and author. She was directed by Jacopo Miliani in La discoteca and by Arkasha Stevenson in The First Omen (20th Century Studios). She writes and presents electronic poetic acts at duevoci together with Caterina Dufì (Vipera). She graduated in Disciplines of Music and Performing Arts in 2019.

Margherita Kay Budillon is an actress active in projects that relate to poetry and reading aloud. She graduated in Modern Literature and Visual Arts, then went on to study and curate artistic practices in public space and the landscape, obtaining a Master's degree in Environmental Humanities from Roma Tre.
